This time three years ago London was a ghost town by normal standards. The city dwellers were aloud to go out for exercise and to eat in restaurants until 9 at partial capacity. We rode bikes along regents canal; passing people solemnly strolling by. Masks were not yet mandated. Healthcare workers with the NHS were seen going into work and leaving St Mary’s hospital in Paddington. I sympathize as I knew I would soon be in the mix of covid when I returned home after 14 days of quarantine. It was odd to see food leaving the shelves, the tube closing so many stops. I took a train southwest to Devon. It was half the normal amount of cars. Life felt different but I was still on a vacation like none other, walking in the unknown and uncertainty of what was to come. Even the waters of the channel were anxious with waves pounding the coast. We could barely walk along it without the wind blowing is away. People were starting to get scared. The media didn’t help. My neighbor thought there were hordes of Londoners in the streets because that’s what the new portrayed. When I returned there to fly home, the city was even more empty or so it appeared. Most restaurants were closed, many hotels were the same. I will never regret going for it was all spectacularly surreal. We had a great time though cut short. Never stop being adventurous even in times of uncertainty; for there is only one life to live. #keygardens #devon #london
The day in Zurich started out in the rain, but walking around was still pleasant, despite the chill in the air. I took solace in the library looking at books I couldn’t understand with the exception of pictures of Switzerland. The land of art, architecture, culture, beauty, and friends keeps me returning. #zurich
